About the Author

The ability of Lenny Tumbarello to bring common sense, practical knowledge about a subject plaguing our Western culture is truly unique. His message is meant to be solid, soul searching and sometimes even intimidating. He knows what it’s like to be in debt up to your eyeballs and turn it back around without bankruptcy.

His practical, common sense philosophies, about money Lenny Tumbarellomatters, were taught to him early by his parents. Like most of us he rejected the advice. Their ideas were backed up by a couple of smart old-timers who kept driving the same message home. They were his superiors at his workplace, and his father-in-law. They kept saying the same thing about money his folks said.

At the age of thirty-three he decided to work his way out of the debt hole. Well actually his wife, Jackie, persuaded him to make the decision. The journey was nothing like he thought it might be. It took turns and sometimes unexpected reversals that have been fun, exciting and resulted in a life experience he never expected.

The lessons they learned along the way were so simple. Most people don’t even think about considering the ideas, because of their simplicity. So many of the ideas were right there before their eyes all the time, yet passed up because they thought it should be harder than that. It was almost as easy as simply deciding to be debt free. Simply setting a goal to just do it.

At the age of forty-four, he and his wife, Jackie, sold their home and drove off into the sunset in their motor home with assets of $250,000 and “NO DEBT.” Twenty years after they made the decision, they’re still living debt-free.

He studies the subject. He lives it and walks his talk. He loves sharing his down-home, simple money philosophies with groups of all sizes. His philosophy is “We too can do … what we set our mind to.” His mission is to help people rid themselves of the burdens their debt creates.

He and Jackie live in Arizona. They spend the winters in the greater Phoenix area, with a trip down the Baja of Mexico every couple of years. They spend their summers up at the Grand Canyon, simply enjoying.

Lenny Explains:

How No Balance Due Became a Book

No Balance Due came about completely by accident. Because of a couple of business closures and sale the assets, my wife Jackie and I took a trip in our motor-home during the spring of 1997.

We discovered there were people who worked during the summers and played during the winters. They worked at campgrounds, amusement parks and state & national parks all across America.

We fell in love with the Grand Canyon and through a series of events, would go to work there beginning that very summer. We’d travel back and forth along Interstate 10 during the winters. What a blast!

Meanwhile, our adult children were getting deeper and deeper into debt. It was on my mind to write down for them just what they had witnessed and explain why and how we’d done it.

I’d always wanted to be a public speaker of sorts. A couple of speakers said some things to me as a young man. I think I’ve had a better life experience because of those words. Jackie suggested, I should look into this speaking thing and give it a whirl.

In July of 2004, I started hanging around some folks who do public speaking as a career. I wanted to see just what it is these folks do. I found out I should have a topic.

What a GOOD IDEA!

One evening I was eating dinner with five of these speakers. They’re the greatest people. Fortunately for me, they were all talking about borrowing money, debt consolidation, refinancing, home equity loans and the like. This whole darn table of people I was eating with was in debt up to their eyeballs.

That’s when it hit me. Hey man - this is a topic - it cuts across all segments of our society. It’s something I know about too.

Next, assuming I needed to research the topic, I read forty-seven books on the subject. I discovered at about book twenty-four, most of these dudes and dudettes weren’t suggesting the truths we’d discovered while digging ourselves out of our debt. Some of them were right on target. Regrettably however, several were actually suggesting implementing exactly the wrong strategies to get out of debt. That’s when the decision was made to write the book
